Stepan Zavalishin was born in St Petersburg in 2001. Since 2019 he has been studying at the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music (classes of Anatoly Dichkovsky and Vera Badulina) and taking vocal lessons from Mariinsky Theatre soloist Mikhail Petrenko. Concurrently, since 2020 Stepan has been a student at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Vladimir Vaneyev).

He made his opera stage debut in 2020, performing Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin (directed by Alexey Stepanyuk, production of the Opera Theatre of the St Petersburg Conservatory) at the St Petersburg Music Hall Theatre.

During 2022–2023 the singer was a trainee at the Mariinsky Theatre, where he debuted in 2022 in The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya. Since September 2023 Stepan Zavalishin has been a soloist with the Mariinsky Opera Company.

He took part in premieres of Mariinsky Theatre productions of The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya (2022, new revision of the 1994 production) and Nabucco (2023).

His repertoire also includes King René (Iolanta) and Surin (The Queen of Spades).

Collaborates with the Elena Obraztsova Cultural Centre and the Irina Bogacheva Charity Foundation, participating in concerts throughout Russia.
